Your Deliverer Is Aware…

Beloved,

David wrote Psalm 34 after looking back retrospectively and seeing how God’s Hand had been involved in his miraculous rescue from the hand of the enemy.

He opens the Psalm by committing to ceaseless praise to God:

I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

David had feigned insanity before Achish, Abimelech, the Philistine king of Gath (1 Samuel 21:10-14).

By pretending madness, David secured his release and escaped. If the story had stopped there, we would probably attribute the escape to David’s astuteness and tact.

However, when David looked back, he saw it differently. Cleverness did not deliver David from the enemy; The Lord Himself delivered David from the hand of the enemy (Psalm 34:4,6).

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
    he delivered me from all my fears…

This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.

David’s Prayer was answered with total deliverance (Psalm 34:4)!

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
    and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

The righteous person may have many troubles,
    but the Lord delivers him from them all;
he protects all his bones,
    not one of them will be broken.

Evil will slay the wicked;
    the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
The Lord will rescue his servants;
    no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned
(Psalm 34:18-22).

This powerful Psalm teaches us that while being right with God is no guarantee of a trouble-free life, we can be confident that God will deliver the righteous from ALL TROUBLES.

The Lord delivers (v19), safeguards (v20), sides with us against our opponents (v21), pays whatever price that will meet our need (redeems, v22a) and offers Himself as an available refuge (v22b).

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
    and saves those who are crushed in spirit
(v18).

Child of God,

You have a Deliverer who will rescue you from all your troubles!

I pray that every trouble that you are facing now will soon become a testimony of how God brought you out! And like David, you will offer yourself to ceaseless praise to God.

Amen,

Jeremiah Nzioka
